We made the great jump from Cairo, Egypt to Asia. We landed in Malaysia and then mercilessly made our way up to Thailand by bus. We jump on and off of buses for about two days straight. Most of my memories of Malaysia are blurry from the lack of sleep and lack of a decent bed. We made it to Phuket which was a buffer local before we went to Phi Phi Island. We then took a two hour pleasure cruise, compared to our bus trips, to Phi Phi Island. This place was beautiful. It seemed almost hidden in the mist that covered the water as we made our way closer to the island. The Island had great life and energy and was a great place to visit no matter how touristy it proved to be. We set up shop here in paradise for a few days, before we got back on the boat and waved goodbye to the sand, the drinks, and the crystal clear warm waters that surrounded the island. Once back to Phuket, we jumped on another glorious bus and made our way to Bangkok. It was another 9 or more hour drive. I got the perfect seat arrangement however. The seats folded down; so the two people in front of me put them clear back to where I LITERALLY could not sit forward. I seemed to do some kind of a sleep tango every few hours; trying to wiggle my way to comfort. There was much celebration once the bus ride ended. Once we got to Bangkok we found a hostel and went out to explore. This area was much different than the beach life that we had been living. We dived into the city and it was busy to say the least. Bangkok is Heaven for backpackers. I have never seen so many in one place at a single time. We sampled the local fried frogs which tasted pretty good. I also saw some scorpions for sale but decided that I wouldn’t be that brave. The street food was amazing and very cheap. The pad thai with an egg roll was more than enough to fill you up and not even $2 US dollars. The Thai pancake (Banana and Nutella) was amazing and almost worth going to Thailand alone. The last day in Thailand was an adventure all in itself. I went an rode on an elephant trek through the jungle. You would sit on baskets, which felt so far away from safe and sturdy. It was an amazing feeling to ride on an animal as big as that.
The next day we headed out to the airport to catch our flight to Beijing. Once we got to Beijing we caught another flight to Japan. Once in Japan we had a long layover until our flight back home to the US. We were flying standby and really were at the mercy to make it onto the plane at all. We not only made it onto the plane, we listed in first class!! The seats fold down into full beds and the service was amazing. I will never get to travel like that again; it was an amazing flight. It was exactly what I needed after a month and a half of traveling. Once we landed in New York I had to sleep in the airport because my flight was the next day. The next day I had two flights to make and I made both of them. Touching down in Kansas City and seeing my beautiful wife was an amazing feeling that I wouldn’t do justice by putting into words. I was so happy to be home.
The trip was amazing and I got to see and experience a lot of great things. Thank you to those who followed the trip this past month. It is great to feel your support in what I am doing. But now that I’m back, it’s time to for MTVIDYO to get back to work…
